Here is one more.....calm down, turn off the caps lock, and quit shouting. Maybe
some members just don't know HOW to use a Yahoo Group poll?

Perhaps try to be a bit understanding of our members varying technology levels
perhaps. If you have extra and unwanted emails just delete them..

Seriously!!!!!! I have been a member long enough i have the right to express myself just like any other – my patience is worn thin – if you dont know how to use the poll you can simply ask someone and l’m sure there is help – l’m a great guy if you know me and many do – but the e-mail situation i cant deal with - the original e-mail states it all – for further notice if you feel the need to reply my e-mail is in the form l’m not going to continue this for everyone to see – its unnecessary.....!

The contradiction of extolling members to learn how to use online polls while you act ignorant of basic netiquette such as "writing in all caps is the online equivalent of YELLING" undermines your point. Or you willfully shouted at me, making me angry at you. And I'm sympathetic to your point. Your message may be spot on, but noone wants to hear it because of the shouting.

Too Many Emails! Empty Re: Too Many Emails!

Post  Admin Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:31 pm

I personally have to chime in on this one, because this is an issue which
plagues me as well. I agree completely with Drew - it can be overwhelming to
receive the plethora of emails from this group, especially with regards to
birthday wishes.

I have actually edited my membership to this group, so that I do not receive any
messages whatsoever in my email. It is truly a shame, because then I am not able
to keep on top of what is going on - I don't have much time for internet lately,
but email I always get on my phone. And even without receiving the emails, it is
still a pure bother to sort through topics and follow complete conversations
here on Yahoo. And *that* leads to a LOT of other issues.

I have suggested in the past that perhaps it would be in the best interest of
the Group were we to stop using the Yahoo Groups altogether and use a forum
installed on the MCB site. This would have two distinct advantages over using
Yahoo: 1> Threading will allow us to keep conversations in context (as opposed
to having to filter through hundreds of birthday wishes to find out about events
- each topic gets its own space) and 2> users could select which topics to
receive email notification about (as opposed to receiving the overwhelming
influx that we typically see).

I don't know if anyone is in support of this, but I do intend on bringing this
up at the meeting on Saturday, so anyone interested in the topic be prepared.

Ladies ladies ladies.....
All of this "chiming" in...when it really comes down to it, ALL of us probably
click the mouse about 1,000,000 times a day. Is it sooooo damn hard to click a
little "X" in a box maybe 10 to 15 times a day to delete some messages you don't
want to read?!?! WOW we have gotten that lazy!?!?! LMAO Like everything else
is comes down to this, its like the old saying "if you dont have anything nice
to say, don't say it at all", well If you don't want to read it then click the
delete button and move on. I can't really help but think this ranting and
raving over something that was SOOO insignif (OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN) has
some underlaying meaning. LOL So to summarize....click one more time to delete
"this" email and all is solved Smile

Thanks for listening to my Rant! Smile

Hugs and kisses to all, and to all a good night!!!!!!!

I agree with Frank on this. Too many disjointed e mail messages, over too many yahoo groups, and I will add this: far too many polls!
The officers were elected to perform the duties of managing the club, and to make decisions on behalf of the club, not to create polls to allow every one else to manage it for them.

MCB AND FRIENDS,
Could we still have Pizzas and an Open bar for $25! I do not need a poll to decide this. Also Pizza, a open bar, and a Male Pole Dancer all for $25 would be GREAT! HA! HUGS Ward.

Too Many Emails! Empty Re: Too Many Emails!

Post  Admin Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:33 pm

Oh Timmy, it isn't hard, just extremely annoying. Why should I have to 'click a
little "X"' at all? Would it not just be so much nicer if everything was
organized in a very easy way? I, personally, spend most of my day clicking the
mouse for my employer. I don't want to have to spend more of my day clicking it
so much just to try to socialize.

You will have to forgive me, but I am from a time in computer history where we
did not even have a mouse - everything had to be ordered efficiently or no one
would be able to accomplish anything.

Would it really be so bad if the club were to put into place something which
would work better for everyone? With a forum, I would not have to even worry
about trying to filter through messages which did not concern or interest me: I
could go right to the topics which did. Conversations would not be so convoluted
and schizophrenic, spanning across multiple messages, replies, and forks.
Misunderstandings would be reduced because all of the 'he said, he said' would
be contained within its own on-topic thread. And these replies with endless
trails (you know what I mean - all that stuff that gets tagged on due to
previous messages, forwards, and replies which make a 2 sentence reply into a
4000 paragraph one) would be gone. Your inbox would only get messages regarding
topics you specify. And on, and on, the benefits.

Some say, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' Well I personally (along with a
growing number of members) believe that it *is* broke. Yahoo Groups can only do
so much, and can no longer meet the needs of our group. And to institute a
transition to a forum system would take less than a week. Something which
everyone would benefit from and, I firmly believe, be happy with.

Regardless of how many times we click a mouse on a daily basis, regardless if 10
to 15 of those clicks involve deleting messages, the point here is that our
online system of communication has become convoluted - like too many radio
stations trying to broadcast on the same channel. It has become incoherent and
difficult to follow. A better system is out there, is free, is simple, and is
quick to institute. There is no logical reason why we should not be taking
advantage of such technology. Continuing to use Yahoo Groups when we don't have
to is tantamount to NASA launching another Apollo capsule to fix a Dish Network
satellite.

Too Many Emails! Empty Dead Cows!!!

Post  Admin Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:33 pm

Hello,
I am still an active member of this club till March 2011.

Great, another reason for new and old members to stay away from the meeting night. Already knowing it will be political. There are so many other important things this club should be doing. Fundraisers and helping out our unfortunate gay brothers and sisters who need our help badly. This is all easy for me to say I no longer live in Michigan. I am on the outside looking in and it does not look like a club I would recommend to my friends when they visit Detroit. This matter has come up before about unwanted e-mails from the club.
This is a dead COW. Oh poor COW.
So, please for the sake of the COW, oh poor COW!
MOOOOOOOOOOOOO forward!
I miss seeing you guys
Happy Anniversary MCB

Thank you, Ward, for providing another reason to avoid the club. No one wants to be a part of a social group or community where their concerns are belittled. Just because something doesn't bother you does not make the issue invalid. try being supportive and less negative. People are looking for solutions not more things to cause decisiveness like this childish meandering you're invoking.

Simply because you began with insulting the previous posters and added your non concern for the issue doesn't make this over either. Again, act like adults instead of snarking queens. Can we all work towards a shared good experience on all fronts instead of causing friction constantly. Instead of working towards an easy solution all that is being done is creating unnecessary drama. If you're opposed to an idea, state that matter-of-factually. Don't take it upon yourself to insult anyone for having a concern whether you find it valid or not. I'm sure you wouldn't have loved that same treatment last year when you had an issue that didn't impact the rest of the group in the same way.

Too Many Emails! Empty Dead Cows 2

Post  Admin Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:35 pm

"DEAD COWS 2, BEEFY JERKY"(Oh poor cows)
Nice name for a e-mail squeal or a movie.
Story Plot One Gay Bear Club in Detroit Michigan. Bear group name, BHMB= Bitchy High Maintenance Bears.(That would look nice on a tee shirt. embroidered of course. In pride colors.) A few of bears from BHMB are angry from getting unwanted e-mails. All of this from a Party the group had to celebrate the New Year 2011. Because of low attendance at the party everyone was voicing there opinions Thur e-mails. Now most people in general know what unwanted e-mails are, just by the subject line. Most people realize that if the subject line dose not interest them, they will delete the e-mail and MOOVE on to the next e-mail and so on. It is just like that Breck commercial. "You know if you tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and so on ......."
Can you name any of those Breck Girls?
Oops I got carried away. Back to my review. Well some of those BHMB just have to satisfy there curiosity and open these unwanted e-mails. It is like Pandora's Box. Well after this keeps happening. Before you know it all this mud e-mail slinging is running rapid with in the BHMB group. Then in the end of our story. Some one claims what they are going to do at the next meeting and how they will fix the unwanted e-mail drama. Funny thing. Final scene in the movie. A room with 50-60 chairs, facing a 6 foot table with 4-5 chairs behind the table. A out town Bear walks up to the door. Only to find a sign that reads.
BHMB GROUP CANCELED!
DUE TO: MANY OPINIONS
AND NOT ENOUGH
SOLUTIONS!
Not the best movie I thought, but the drama at times was almost like a Bette Davis and Joan Crawford movie.
It has become Dead Cows.Oh poor Dead COWS

If you want to fix the problems and help the club then run for officer.
Every year it is the same old story with you a lot and I mean a whole bunch of
talk. You never step up and open your mouth at the meetings. So show up and put
your name in for a officer of the club. To me deciding weather to delete an
e-mail or receiving unwanted e-mails is not the funtion of this club. SO PUT UP

Ward, thank you. You are perfectly entitled to your opinions/beliefs. But it is
that kind of attitude which makes people like me want to discontinue association
from great groups like the MCB. I am sorry that your only response to a logical,
forward-thinking idea is ridicule, but again, that is *your* opinion and you are
most certainly welcome to it. Using a forum-based system, you would be
completely free to make such statements without drawing other members in to such
unnecessary and unwanted theatrics. I humbly thank you for furthering my point,
and I wish to extend an invitation to you to voice your comments for discussion

You forget yourself. I brought up the issue way before it ever happened to you. You didn't care until you and your friend became a victim of said issue. I spoke up and continue to speak up when necessary. I typically get responses like this one. You were lucky enough to be a member in longer standing which garnered you more support. The thing is, I don't need for something to happen to me directly before I give a shit about anyone else who is supposed to be my friends and associates. Don't get angry because I'm calling a duck a duck. You stood up when you had your own selfish reasons to do so. Guess what. that incident would have never happened if I didn't get responses Like this from you and from the likes of Ward saying "Why should we need a change in venue? Nothing has ever happened to us! Yellow rocks!" Everyone was too scared and complacent to address what I brought up seriously until it was too late. After that, the only action to take was not to attend events at Diamond Jim's. I think my actions in light of the blaring group non support of the change worked out better for me. If there was less insulting banter and more compassionate support, your friends car wouldn't have been damaged.

True, this is adding to the gaggle of snarkiness. I'll leave this be and go back to dealing with the original issue with the email group at the meeting.

Too Many Emails! Empty Re: Too Many Emails!

Post  Admin Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:37 pm

Oh Ward, I love you! You are a treasure!

I have no doubt that you will recall 2009 December / 2010 January when I was one
of the most vocal opponents of continuing meetings at Diamond Jim's (and one of
the most vocal proponents of Affirmations as a new meeting location)!

You say that your message to Chael also pertains to me, which is quite ironic
since that makes you the second person in as many months who believes I am MCB
Officer material. Something which I have actually given much consideration to.

I do have to say, on a very personal note, that I certainly do not appreciate
the attitude you've taken with my husbear. He was also very vocal regarding the
move to a new meeting place, and has been vocal in other areas regarding the
club. Regardless if he personally wishes to become an officer or not, I believe
that it is poor form on your part to be so critical of his contribution. You do
not know what he has or has not personally done for the MCB, so perhaps you
should not speak on this topic, to be on the safe side.

You are 100% correct though: it is not the club's role to decide which emails
should be deleted. However, it *is* the club's role to ensure that all
communications heralded under its name are ultimately relevant to the club and
its functions. If the club is going to continue under a laissez-faire system
(with regards to electronic communications), then the club should seriously
consider a system which is more orderly.

Over and over, I (among others) have been told that this club can be whatever we
want or need it to be. And yet, when people come along and try to stretch the
club's boundaries into territories with benefit potential, they are too often
met with snide criticism and - quite frankly - undue remarks such as what you
have provided. BUT again: you are perfectly entitled to your opinion. I will not
rob you of that, because honestly Ward I could give two shits about what you
have to say (let's be fair: you've made it quite obvious you feel the same
towards me).

I would caution anyone to please, instead of using emotional outbursts, or trite
comments, let's all please give thought to what we want to say, and say so in an
honest and well-intentioned way. There is no need for this backbiting or witless
conversation. It is quite silly that my thoughts (which are shared by a number
of members) for a better communication system should incur such venomous
backlash!

And again, Ward, I certainly welcome any and all comments / rebuttal / objection
you may wish to bring up at the Saturday meeting. I believe that what I have to
say will be valuable and move the club in a forward direction - if you can say
the same for your position, I welcome the debate!

Until the meeting,
Frank
